We are delighted that you are considering the Behaviour Specialist vacancy at the European School The Hague.
We are seeking a proactive, empathetic and solution-focused professional to take a leading role in promoting positive student behaviour, supporting staff with behaviour management and implementing restorative and preventive strategies across the school. Based within our dedicated Pastoral Care team, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with team leaders, the academic and well-being support coordinator, our psychologist, and counselling staff.
The role would suit someone who believes that behaviour is a form of communication and that, with the right support and guidance, students can make meaningful and lasting changes that will empower them to succeed socially and academically.

As a Behaviour Counsellor, you will:
- Advise on and support school-wide behaviour strategy and positive behaviour systems.
- Deliver targeted behaviour interventions for individual students and groups.
- Support students in managing behavioural challenges that impact their learning and relationships.
- Promote restorative approaches, including facilitating student-staff conferences and reintegration meetings.
- Guide and support teaching and pastoral staff in consistently applying school behaviour policies.
- Liaise with families and external agencies to develop cohesive behaviour plans.
- Oversee and manage spaces for behaviour support, e.g. the Internal Time-Out room.
- Support attendance and punctuality strategies where behaviour is a factor.
- Track and analyse behaviour data to monitor trends and evaluate impact.
- Deliver staff training and guidance on managing behaviour with empathy and consistency.

- Enjoy competitive benefits. We offer a salary aligned with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement (CAO VO). For a full-time contract on OOP 10 scale, the salary a minimum €3179 and a maximum of €5277. The salary scale of the step offered will depend on your level of experience.

What we’re looking for:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a behaviour-related subject (e.g. psychology, pedagogy, social work or SEN).
- Experience of, or willingness to learn about, positive behaviour support.
- Experience of working with secondary-aged students (10–18) facing behavioural or emotional difficulties.
- Strong knowledge of behaviour management frameworks, restorative practices and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to coach staff and support consistent behaviour approaches across a school.
- Familiarity with safeguarding practices and reporting responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students and families.
- Proficiency in English (C1 minimum); knowledge of other EU languages is advantageous.
- Experience in international or intercultural education is desirable.
